About us…
Our club is one larger group. We have a Robotics Club at Waupaca Middle School, where students in grades 5 through 8 participate in FIRST Lego League. Our High School age students have the opportunity to participate in FIRST Robotics Challenge. But, we are all one big team working to make an Impact on the future of the Waupaca community.
Robotics is a different competition. It has many of the challenges of a sport, it requires dedication, time, and skill development. But it also provides an opportunity to learn real world skills that prepare for our changing workplaces.
Both of these age groups are having fun, building teamwork skills, discovering new solutions to problems, and innovating new ideas, including others in their work, and driving to impact our local and world. These words are our core values, where we work to show our Gracious Professionalism in all that we do.
Our Middle School teams work with the FIRST Lego League Challenge. They design a robot with Lego SPIKE Prime, and design code to solve challenges on a table. These robots run several short autonomous runs, where the team works to strategize for the most points in their short rounds. They present an Innovation Project where they show their ideas as to how we can solve a problem within our season’s theme. They travel to tournaments to get feedback on their work, and can travel on to state and national competitions.
The WIRED Robotics team at Waupaca High School has a more complex challenge. They design a robot, develop a business plan, and work to collaborate with other similar teams at tournaments. Their robot is designed to run code for an ‘autonomous’ turn, and a driver based turn. While competing, they are normally competing in collaboration with two other teams, against three teams. This team works year round to prepare for their tournaments. Fundraising, marketing, coding, and sharing. They work to mentor our younger teams, and collaborate with their mentors, many of which work at Waupaca Foundry.
